A medical aesthetician is a professional who works to improve a client’s physical appearance, through skin treatments. They’re closely associated with the field of dermatology. Specialists in this field are usually required to have an esthetician, cosmetology or nurse license and appropriate training to qualify for these roles. Medical estheticians typically work under supervision of medical professionals in various medical settings including plastic surgeon’s clinics, dermatology clinics, private physician practices and medical spas.

What’s the difference between a medical aesthetician and an esthetician?

A medical aesthetician has the same license as a general esthetician, but they provide advanced skin care procedures and more intensive treatments at a higher degree of difficulty. While regular estheticians usually work at beauty salons and day spas, medical aestheticians can work in a variety of medical settings. To become a medical aesthetician additional training and certification is necessary.

Medical estheticians perform a variety of procedures and services that focus on corrective cosmetology to improve a patient’s skin or body shape.
